HPD05 PM2.5 Sensor Module use principle of optical scattering to measure concentration of dust inthe air,the module built in a Infrared Transmitter and a high sensitive Photoelectric Receiving Sensor the Infrared Transmitter emits light and the light meets the dust to produce the scotch light, theintensity of the scotch light detected by Photoelectric Receiving Sensor reflects the concentration ofdust in the air, HPD05 have two ways to output current concentration data, one is PWM signal (thewidth of signal is the value, 1ms = 1ug/m3), the other is IIC signal(unit is ug/m3).

HPD05 can be used for Air Cleaner, Air Conditioner with purifying function, Fresh Air System and air quality testing equipment.

3. Detecting Principle

Per the principle of optical scattering,the Transmitter emits light, and the light meets the dust to produce the scotch light, the high sensitive Photoelectric Receiving Sensor detects the intensity of the scotch light then output intensity signal, current which is proportional to the size and quality of intensity of the scotch light, the current is amplified by amplifier and calibrated by CPU, finally output digital PWM signal or IIC data of concentration of dust.

The relation of Low Pulse Time and Dust Concentration: 1ms = 1ug/m3

The pulse width outputted by P1 pin is the average value of Dust Concentration(Lower responding speed, small fluctuation & good stability)

The pulse width outputted by P2 pin is the instantaneous value of Dust Concentration(Faster responding speed, large fluctuation)

b. IIC signal output:

External CPU can get the data value of dust concentration by read the register of HPD05 by IIC. Through the IIC interface to read the HPD05 internal registers directly, Host can obtain the value of Dust Concentration.

b-1 IIC Communication Interface:

Host generates eight clock pulses to send 8bits data out,at the time of SCL’s eighth falling edge, device changes SDA as input pin, and read SDA input value at the time of SCL’s ninth pulse. After ninth pulse of SCL, if next receiving is not ready, data receiver will pull low SCL to pause the transferring of next byte. When receiver releases SCL bus, data transferring continue.

IIC bus is idle after Stop Transferring signal

IIC Bus Protocol defined two status: Start Transferring(S) and Stop Transferring(P). Start Transferring signal: when SCL as high, there is a falling change from high voltage to low

voltage on SDA line. Stop Transferring signal: when SCL as high, there is a rising change from low voltage to high voltageon SDA line.

Signal S or P is generated by Host Machine, IIC bus is busy after generation of Start Transferring signal; IIC bus is idle after Stop Transferring signal.

7. Notes

(1). HPD05 use the Joule heating of resistor, produce updrafts in the inner part of the casing, so the sensor module installation keep vertical with an error of less than plus or minus 3 degrees. The sensor inlet is facing downward and the outlet is facing upwards.( Note: with heating resistance for the air inlet, position at the lower end; to ensure the flow of the air inlet and outlet)

(2). If updrafts inside of the casing chaos, it affects the feature of HPD05, please consider the airflow around the sensor.

(3). HPD05 is installed inside of the device, the front window need to be fitted with a black sponge(Close to the sensor the front window surface can not be gum), to ensure that it is in the dark environment, reduce the influence of interference light.

(4).HPD05 do not use in the environment of organic gases and flammable gases.

(5).Clean the surface of the lens please do not use organic agent and detergent. And please not to bruise the lens surface, avoid the hard object of scoop. The surface of the lens can be cleaned with a cotton swab dipped in clean water, and then dry with a cotton swab. Do not use alcohol.

(6).The power supply voltage fluctuation must be controlled below 50mV.

(7). This product contains conductive material because of its rubber shell, In order to use safety, it is recommended to use isolated power supply, and non isolated power supply needs to be well protected.
